What is a
sentence?
A sentence
is a group of words used to communicate a complete thought.
When we
speak or write we use word, we generally use these words in groups. For
example: The man is going to the park. A group of word like this which makes
complete sense is called sentence.
When we make
sentence we say some sentence about that person or
Things In
other word we must have a subject to speak about and we must say a predicate
something about that subject. Hence every sentence has two parts which name
person or thing we are speaking about is called the subject of the sentence the
part which let us something about the subject is called predicate of the sentence.
Here are a
few examples of subject or predicate:
The cat
chases the rat.
Ram is
playing.
The sun
sets.
In these
sentences the word like the cat, ram and the sun are the subject of the
sentence was like sets, is playing and chases the rat are saying something
about the subject hence are the predicate of the sentence.
The subject
in a sentence usually comes first but in some sentences it comes later:
Example:
Go to the
temple every day. Here temple every day is the subject and go to
is the predicate.
Don’t make
noise in this sentence noise is the subject and don’t make is the predicate.
Kind of
sentences:
Sentences
are four kinds:
1) Assertive 3) exclamatory
2) Interrogative 4) imperative
1) Assertive
sentence: A sentence that makes a statement is called a declarative or
assertive sentence.
For Example:
English is a global language.
2) Interrogative
sentence: A sentence that asks a question is called an interrogative sentence.
For Example:
Do you have a pen?
Exclamatory sentence:
A sentence that expresses strong feeling is called an exclamatory sentence.
For Example:
What a smart car!
Imperative
sentence: A sentence that express a command or
Request is
called imperative sentence.
For Example:
Be quite or please help me
